The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave.
The approval was granted on Thursday after lawmakers considered a letter from the governor during plenary, in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, which requires a governor to notify the State House of Assembly before proceeding on leave or being absent from office.
According to the letter, Makinde’s leave will begin on August 10 and end on September 11, 2026, while Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal will oversee the affairs of the state during his absence.

He is expected to resume official duties on September 14, 2026.
The letter was read by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
Following deliberations, lawmakers unanimously approved the request and expressed confidence in Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal’s ability to ensure the smooth running of the state government throughout the governor’s leave.
