The Oyo State Government has received two security surveillance aircraft to improve aerial monitoring, intelligence gathering and rapid response operations across the state and neighbouring areas.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, on Tuesday, marking a major step in the state government’s efforts to improve security operations through advanced surveillance technology.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the government said the arrival of the aircraft would enhance intelligence collection and support security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier announced on July 18, 2026, that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.
The state government had also assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, a commitment it said had now been fulfilled.
The surveillance aircraft are expected to support the operations of security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant formations, by improving the monitoring of criminal activities and strengthening response efforts across the state.
The commissioner said Governor Makinde was at the airport to receive the aircraft.
The state government announced the purchase of the two surveillance aircraft in July 2025 as part of measures to improve the capacity of security agencies to address growing security challenges, including kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities.
The arrival of the aircraft comes as the Makinde administration intensifies efforts to deploy modern technology in its fight against insecurity across Oyo State.
