The Kogi State Police Command has intercepted a vehicle conveying a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Saliu Oyiza Afusat.

According to the statement, the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by the police to combat criminal activities and drug trafficking across the state.

The police said the operation was carried out on May 9, 2026, by operatives attached to a tactical team operating within the Kabba axis during a routine operation at a strategic location in the area.

“Operatives attached to a tactical team operating within the Kabba axis intercepted a Honda Pilot vehicle conveying a large quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp during a routine operation at a strategic location within the area,” the statement read.

Preliminary findings, according to the Command, showed that the vehicle contained about Three Hundred and Forty-Two (342) wraps of the suspected substance.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, while the vehicle and recovered exhibits were taken to the Area Command Headquarters in Kabba for further investigation.

The police also alleged that an attempt was made to bribe the operatives during the operation, but the officers rejected the offer in line with professional and operational standards.

“During the operation, an attempt was made to influence the operatives to compromise the process through an offer of Five Million Naira (₦5,000,000), which was resisted in line with established professional standards and operational procedures,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.

He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against criminality and protecting lives and property across the state.
