Spanish club Real Madrid has confirmed that defender Antonio Rüdiger has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027.

“Real Madrid and Antonio Rudiger have agreed the extension of our player’s contract, who will stay at the club until June 30, 2027,” the club said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old centre-back joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2022, having previously played for Stuttgart and Roma. Since arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu, Rüdiger has become a key figure in Madrid’s defensive line, combining physicality, aerial strength, and leadership at the back.

His impact has also been reflected in the club’s recent success. Rüdiger was part of the squad that won La Liga and the UEFA Champions League in 2024, following the Copa del Rey triumph in 2023. His experience and consistency have made him one of the more trusted defensive options in the squad during a transitional period for the team.

The extension comes as Real Madrid continue to reshape their squad following a challenging spell without major silverware in two consecutive seasons.

Club president Florentino Pérez recently appointed José Mourinho as head coach in June, a move widely seen as an attempt to restore competitive dominance domestically and in Europe.

Madrid have also been active in the transfer market. The club confirmed the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on Monday. Reports also continue to link the Spanish side with Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries, while Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté is expected to join upon the expiry of his contract.

Rüdiger’s renewal signals continuity at the back as Madrid balance experience with incoming reinforcements in their ongoing squad rebuild.
