Russian Factory Fire Kills 14 

At least 14 people have died in a blaze at a fireworks factory in central Russia on Monday, according to Russian state media citing emergency services.

The incident occurred in the village of Kubrinsk in the Yaroslavl region, about 100 kilometres north of Moscow.

Russia’s state news agency TASS reported that the death toll had risen to 14, with one person injured.

“The death toll from a fire at a fireworks factory in the Yaroslavl region has risen to 14, with one person injured,” the state TASS news agency reported. 

Video released by state broadcaster RT appeared to show bright sparks rising from a smouldering pile of rubble at the site.

The regional prosecution service has opened an investigation into possible violations of industrial safety regulations.

Deadly industrial fires are relatively common in Russia, where authorities have frequently linked such incidents to inadequate safety standards.
