Russian missile and drone strikes hit Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight, injuring several people and damaging residential and commercial buildings, hours after Ukraine launched a wave of drone attacks on targets inside Russia.

Residents reported hearing multiple explosions after Ukraine’s air force warned of incoming ballistic missiles. Authorities gave differing casualty figures, with the Kyiv military administration initially reporting one death, while Mayor Vitali Klitschko said seven people were injured. Emergency services later confirmed at least two injuries.

The attacks caused fires and structural damage across several districts, including Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Dniprovskyi and Shevchenkivskyi. Residential buildings, a supermarket, a shopping and entertainment centre, and other properties were affected.

Earlier, Ukraine carried out drone strikes on logistics warehouses in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions, reportedly killing eight people and sparking major fires. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the facilities were used to supply sanctioned components for Russian drone production and navigation equipment.

Kyiv has increasingly targeted infrastructure inside Russia, describing the campaign as retaliation for years of Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russian officials said hundreds of Ukrainian drones had been intercepted near Moscow over the past week.

Meanwhile, thousands of Ukrainians staged a third consecutive day of protests against the dismissal of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov during a government reshuffle, as President Zelensky held meetings with senior military commanders, fuelling speculation over further changes to Ukraine’s military leadership.
