Saudi air defence forces intercepted and destroyed an incoming hostile drone in the Riyadh region on Saturday, coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki confirmed in a statement on X.

Authorities reported no injuries following the interception, though fallen debris scattered across the region.
While officials have not explicitly named the launching party, the operation comes amid a steep escalation in aerial strikes targeting key infrastructure within the kingdom.

The attack follows a series of destructive strikes by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, whose recent assault on Riyadh airport forced a two-week closure and disrupted major commercial operations.
Regional tensions have intensified sharply since a fragile 2022 truce collapsed in July, triggering renewed military offensives, Houthi maritime blockades, and retaliatory Saudi airstrikes that have displaced over 275,000 people across Yemen.
