Troops of the Nigerian Army working with the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the immigration service have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants in Ogun State, the army said on Sunday.

The operation began on 11 June 2026 and targeted locations in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and surrounding communities, army spokesperson Major Idereghi Samuel Akari said in a statement.

Preliminary investigations indicated the suspects had been living in the state for about six months without valid immigration papers, Akari said.

During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers associated with QNet, an online marketing platform that deals in various commodities.

“The arrested individuals comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 nationals of Côte d’Ivoire, 4 nationals of Togo and 1 national of Senegal. Among them are 36 males and 10 females,” Akari noted.

“The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in accordance with extant laws.”

The Commander of 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended troops and other security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance.

He urged residents to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities to the authorities.

The operation demonstrates the military’s commitment to combating illegal migration and improving internal security, Akari said.
