The lawmaker also appealed to the public to respect the family’s desire to mourn privately and lay their daughter to rest with dignity, noting that they had expressed a wish to avoid intrusion and recrimination.

Katung extended the appeal to his colleagues in the National Assembly and well-wishers within and outside Nigeria who have sought information about the incident.

Describing Habila’s death as a heartbreaking loss, the senator expressed condolences to her family, friends and the people of Kaduna South, praying for the repose of her soul and strength for her loved ones.

He also expressed confidence that the relevant authorities would, where necessary, conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation to establish the true circumstances surrounding her death and ensure justice is served.

According to Katung, the wishes and feelings of the bereaved family should remain central throughout the process.

The senator further disclosed that he had assured Habila’s parents of his commitment to ensuring they receive fair treatment and that every lawful effort would be made to help them achieve closure.

Mary Habila was a member of a medical team accompanying the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to his hometown in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where she was reportedly found dead within his residential compound.
