Libyan security forces discovered the bodies of six migrants in the Al-Wahat desert region, roughly 1,000 kilometres southeast of Tripoli.

Two days before the discovery, an eastern Libyan military unit rescued 19 surviving members of the same group after their vehicle broke down in the remote area, about 200 kilometres northwest of Jalu.

Rescuers transferred the 19 survivors to Jalu General Hospital for medical care and identification, while emergency services moved the six bodies to the central hospital.

The Al-Wahat region acts as a major transit corridor for migrants moving from southern Libya toward the Mediterranean coast.

Travelling through the vast desert frequently leaves migrants stranded, leading to severe casualties and disappearances.
