Guards Close Libyan Valve, Shutting Down Three Oilfields

Guards unlawfully closed a valve on a main crude pipeline on Tuesday, forcing Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) to halt production at three key fields.

The shutdown immediately cut operations at the Hamada field (NC8), Tahara field (NC4), and Station NC5 after the blockage caused a sudden pressure surge.

While the Petroleum Facilities Guard has not officially commented on the incident, the group frequently blockades infrastructure over wage and labour disputes.

The state producer warned it will declare force majeure if the pipeline remains blocked or if guards target additional facilities.

The company condemned the disruption, stating that “halting production at this critical juncture as the world experiences a surge in crude oil prices deals a devastating blow to the national economy.”

NOC officials called on state authorities to resolve the crisis as political division between Tripoli and rival eastern factions continues to destabilise the nation’s energy sector.
