Suspected terrorists have killed about 30 people during Friday prayers in Sokoto State, according to local sources, in the latest deadly attack to hit northwest Nigeria.
The attack occurred in Ungushi village in Kebbe Local Government Area, where gunmen suspected to belong to the Lakurawa group reportedly attacked worshippers during prayers.
Shamsuddeen Mai Akwai, secretary of the Kebbe local government council, said on Monday that the attackers were armed with “sophisticated weapons” and struck while residents were observing Friday prayers.

A resident of nearby Kebbe town, who asked not to be named for security reasons, said the attack followed the killing of four soldiers in Kebbe on Friday.
The resident put the death toll in Ungushi at about 30, while a police spokesman gave a lower figure of 28.
Lakurawa has been linked by some researchers to the Islamic State Sahel Province, which is mainly active in Mali and neighbouring Niger.
