According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that on June 11, 2026, at about 6:48 p.m., the suspect, who claims to be a teacher by profession, also works as a driver.

Mensah allegedly picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza within the University of Cape Coast (UCC) hostel enclave and transported her to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen.

The police said investigations are ongoing and further updates will be communicated in due course.

Avinu, a 20-year-old student, was reported missing last week, and her body was later discovered at the Hutchland Beach area near Duakor in Cape Coast, about 12 hours after she was last seen by her roommate, with whom she lived at a private hostel in Amamoma.

Her roommate said the deceased received a phone call, dressed casually, and left the room at about 7 p.m. on June 11, 2026.

A preliminary police report indicated that no visible signs of physical injury were observed when the body was examined at the beach scene.
