The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested suspected hoodlums accused of harassing and extorting motorists during an enforcement operation along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post shared on X on Sunday, saying the operation targeted individuals allegedly constituting a nuisance and threatening motorists and other road users.
According to Wahab, the suspects allegedly harass and intimidate motorists, demand money from them and, in some cases, damage vehicles when their demands are rejected.
“The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducted a midnight enforcement operation along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway to apprehend miscreants and hoodlums who have been constituting a nuisance and posing a threat to motorists and other road users,” Wahab said.
He said the operation was specifically aimed at curbing activities that have allegedly made motorists vulnerable to harassment and extortion along the busy route.
“The operation was targeted at individuals who allegedly harass and intimidate motorists, extort money from them, and, in some instances, damage vehicles when motorists refuse to yield to their demands,” he said.
Wahab said the RRS would sustain intelligence-led operations against individuals whose activities threaten public safety and disrupt movement across Lagos.
“The RRS will continue to sustain intelligence-led operations and enforcement actions against criminal elements whose activities threaten public safety and disrupt the free movement of people and vehicles across the State,” he said.
The operation is part of ongoing enforcement efforts by Lagos authorities to address street crime, harassment of motorists and other activities considered threats to public order.
