Tinubu Approves ₦3.3 Trillion Power Sector Rescue

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, he also approved a ₦15 billion take-off grant for the institution.

The approval was in line with provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the academy in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses nationwide.

The location of the new campus in Erinja was said to have been recommended after a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.

The meeting reportedly reviewed issues including student intake capacity, funding considerations, academic quality assurance and the long-term manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force, which is currently undergoing recruitment expansion.

The statement added that Tinubu believes the academy’s expansion will strengthen institutional governance, modern policing education and national security.

The approval comes months after the President declared a nationwide security emergency and directed increased recruitment into the police and military in response to rising attacks, kidnappings and insecurity across parts of the country.

At the time, Tinubu authorised the police to recruit an additional 20,000 officers.

In a statement issued in November 2025, the President also said he had approved the upgrade of police training facilities nationwide and permitted the use of selected National Youth Service Corps camps as temporary training depots.
