The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has congratulated Rangers International FC for winning the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title for a record ninth time.
Rangers, a football club domicile in Enugu, finished top of the 2024/2025 season with 68 points from 38 matches, ahead of Rivers United.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the players, coaches, and supporters for the achievement. He also highlighted the club’s long history and success in Nigerian and African football.

Tinubu recalled Rangers’ dominance in the 1970s and 1980s, including league titles, FA Cup wins, and continental achievements such as reaching the 1975 African Cup of Champions Clubs final and winning the 1977 African Cup Winners’ Cup. He commended Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for supporting sports development in the state.
“I must also congratulate Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on the victory of Rangers International FC. This victory is an obvious fruit of his administration’s investments in youth and sports in the state. I commend him,” the President said.

He described Rangers as one of Nigeria’s most historic clubs and praised their contribution to the development of top footballers who have represented the country internationally.
“As one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football players who went on to make the country proud on the global stage. I am proud of their achievement,” he stated.
The President also praised Rivers United for their strong performance in the season, describing them as disciplined and competitive. He added that both Rangers International FC and Rivers United will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League and wished them success in the competition.
