President Bola Tinubu never promised an Eldorado within three years, his spokesperson Sunday Dare said on Monday, as he defended the administration against opposition criticism of its record.
Dare, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, argued that no country resolves its major challenges in a single four-year term and that rebuilding the economy remains a work in progress.
“President Tinubu did not promise Eldorado in 3 years. No country solved its challenges in 4 years. It’s always a journey,” Dare wrote on X.
The term “Eldorado” originates from a 16th-century Spanish legend of a mythical city of immense gold and riches sought by explorers in South America.
Today, it is used to describe any place of fabulous wealth or opportunity.
He accused the opposition of making it their “stock in trade” to campaign against the results and impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda rather than offering original ideas or a clear blueprint.
Dare was responding to and amplifying a post that listed government actions including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange unification, the National Education Loan Fund, minimum wage increases, infrastructure projects such as rail lines and coastal highways, health sector interventions, security operations, and various reforms.
He said the opposition continues to attack what he described as the president’s successful and bold decisions.
“We will continue to point the results out and defend them,” Dare stated, adding that the administration would work to help Nigerians understand that economic rebuilding is ongoing.
Dare characterised those eager to gain power as “desperados who have nothing to offer except their greed for power.”
The comments come as Nigeria’s political debate intensifies over the short-term costs and longer-term outcomes of reforms introduced since Tinubu took office in 2023.
