At least eight people were killed, and more than 30 were injured after a freight train collided with a bus in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, on Saturday, police said.
Emergency responders and firefighters were deployed to the scene as authorities cordoned off the affected intersection in the city’s downtown area.
Bangkok police Urumporn Koondejsumrit said 35 people sustained injuries in the crash, with two reported to be in critical condition.
“Eight people have died, and 35 others were injured,” the Bangkok police chief told AFP.

The collision occurred early Saturday afternoon at a railway crossing. Videos circulating on social media showed the train approaching the crossing before crashing into the bus, which burst into flames moments later.
Police said rescue workers later extinguished the fire and began recovering bodies from the burnt vehicle.
Witnesses described scenes of panic and chaos following the impact, with some saying the flames spread rapidly after the collision. One eyewitness told local media that the force of the crash pushed nearby vehicles away before the bus caught fire.
Thailand’s Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, has ordered an investigation into the incident, according to a statement from his office.
Thailand has recorded a series of deadly transport accidents in recent years, with road safety concerns frequently linked to speeding, weak enforcement and dangerous driving conditions.
