The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned 30-minute power disruption in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday to enable engineers to load a newly installed 300MVA power transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation.
The temporary interruption, scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, will affect electricity supply to Maitama, Mpape and parts of Jahi.
In a statement issued on Friday, TCN said the exercise was part of efforts to bring a new 300MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer into operation at its Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that its maintenance crew will load the newly installed 300MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer at its Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation on Saturday, 1st August, 2026, from 10 am to 10:30 am,” the company said.
According to TCN, the operation will temporarily reduce the amount of electricity available for distribution from the substation.
“The thirty-minute exercise will result in a temporary bulk load reduction from the substation, affecting a few areas in Abuja only,” it stated.
The company said the planned maintenance would prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from receiving electricity from the transmission network for distribution to some customers during the exercise.
TCN apologised to customers who would be affected by the temporary disruption.
