President Donald Trump has warned that Iran “will not have anything left” if it does not quickly agree to a peace deal with the United States (US).

Trump made the remarks on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, saying: “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”

The warning comes as Washington and Tehran remain in conflict following major strikes launched by US and Israeli forces on Iran since February 28. Also, the message came as the president was due to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.

Efforts to end the war have stalled, while tensions in the Middle East continue to rise and energy prices remain high. The conflict has also disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route, and drawn in regional actors such as Israel and Lebanon.

Iran has insisted on a lasting ceasefire in Lebanon before agreeing to wider peace talks, while exchanges of fire have continued between Israel and Hezbollah. Despite a truce agreed on April 8, both sides have accused each other of continuing attacks.

Iranian media reported that the US failed to make major concessions in its latest response. The Fars news agency said Washington presented a five-point proposal, including demands that Iran limit nuclear operations and transfer its highly enriched uranium stockpile to the United States.
