Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas has ended a nearly 18-month title drought, capturing his 13th career ATP trophy with a three-set victory over Belgian Raphael Collignon at the Swiss Open in Gstaad on Sunday.
Tsitsipas, a former world number three, prevailed 6-4, 6-7 (3/7), 6-3 on the clay courts, claiming his first title since Dubai in February 2025.
The 27-year-old has experienced a significant drop in rankings, falling to 85th in the world from his career-high of number three in 2021. That year, he reached the French Open final, while in 2023 he made it to the Australian Open final, highlighting his capacity for success on the sport’s biggest stages.
Tsitsipas boasts an impressive record in ATP Masters tournaments, having lifted the London Masters trophy in 2019 and winning the Monte Carlo Masters three times between 2021 and 2024. Despite recent setbacks, his performance in Gstaad demonstrates his resilience and enduring skill.
Collignon, 24, was contesting his first ATP final and entered the match buoyed by a dramatic semi-final win over Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo, during which he saved a match point.
“We both really want it,” Tsitsipas said after navigating the semi-finals. He added, “We’ve come to the end, the two of us, so I feel like no one wants to go out there and not give it their all. It’s one last breath. I want to get out there and take the court by storm.”
The hard-fought victory underscores Tsitsipas’s determination to return to the sport’s elite ranks, reaffirming his status as one of tennis’s most formidable competitors on clay.
