Tunisia have become the first African team to be eliminated from the World Cup after suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat to Japan in Mexico on Saturday in their second Group F match.
The result comes after an earlier 5-1 loss to Sweden, bringing their total goals conceded to nine across two games and confirming that they can no longer progress to the knockout stage, regardless of their final group match against the Netherlands.
The Eagles of Carthage went into the match under intense pressure following their opening defeat, which led to a coaching change. Sabri Lamouchi departed after the loss to Sweden, with Hervé Renard taking charge ahead of the Japan clash.

However, the new manager was unable to turn things around as Tunisia suffered another heavy defeat, leaving their tournament hopes over.
Speaking after the match, Tunisian fan Samih Kadry expressed disappointment over the team’s performance and the late coaching change.
“I think that are a lot more things that should be changed. It’s a disappointment actually. We came from Paris, we came from Tunisia, from all over the place to support the team but it’s a bit of a disappointment,” he said.
The Eagles of Carthage will now face the Netherlands in their final Group F match, which will serve only as an opportunity to restore some pride before exiting the tournament.
