Two Nigerian women have been arrested by the railway police in Delhi, India, after they were allegedly found in possession of 2.28kg of cocaine worth approximately Rs20 crore, or about N380m.
According to The New Indian Express, the suspects, identified as 43-year-old Chikanso James and 41-year-old Happiness Okoye, were arrested during a patrol at Platform One of Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
Police said the officers became suspicious of the women’s movements and searched them in accordance with India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The authorities said 11 packets containing the suspected cocaine were recovered from James.
The substance was subsequently examined by crime team members and forensic experts, who confirmed that it was cocaine.
Investigators alleged that the consignment was linked to an interstate drug trafficking network operating between Mumbai and Delhi-NCR.
According to the police, James told investigators that she collected the consignment from Vikaspuri.
The authorities said efforts were ongoing to identify other suspected members of the alleged syndicate and trace its financial and supply networks.
James was remanded in police custody, while Okoye was placed in judicial custody as investigations continue.
