President Donald Trump issued a stern warning on Monday, stating that any Iranian attack vessels approaching the newly established U.S. naval blockade would be “immediately eliminated.”

This escalation comes despite international pleas to maintain a fragile ceasefire and return to the negotiating table.

The blockade, which targets all ships entering or exiting Iranian harbours, follows the collapse of high-stakes diplomatic talks in Pakistan.

The standoff intensified after Vice President JD Vance and a U.S. delegation failed to reach an agreement regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Vance emphasised that Washington’s “red lines” include strict control over Iran’s enriched uranium and a robust verification system to prevent the development of nuclear weapons.

While mediators from Pakistan and Qatar maintain that a two-week truce is technically still holding, Iranian officials have blamed the impasse on what they describe as “excessive demands” from the American side.

Global leaders have expressed deep concern over the blockade’s impact on international trade and maritime safety.

The United Nations highlighted the plight of approximately 20,000 seafarers currently stranded in the region, while China and France have called for the protection of freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.

In response to the blockade, Iran’s military has labelled the move an “act of piracy,” warning that if its own harbours are threatened, no port in the Persian Gulf will remain secure.
