Nine children were among those detained by Lagos State task force operatives on Wednesday as authorities intensified enforcement actions against street begging under the Cleaner Lagos initiative.
The enforcement operations unfolded at multiple locations. At the CMS area, officials detained 14 adults alongside nine minors, according to Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.
A separate raid in Oshodi and Agege netted 22 individuals, mostly adults with a handful of teenagers.
“Earlier today, in a separate enforcement operation, our team apprehended 22 beggars at Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers,” Wahab announced.
“Additionally, 14 adults and 9 children were apprehended at CMS. Clearance operations are also ongoing at Admiralty Way, Lekki, and Addo Road in Ajah.”
Video footage released by the commissioner showed task force personnel in high-visibility vests sweeping through public spaces, rounding up people, including women and young children, before loading them into waiting vehicles.

Wahab added that similar clearance operations are also ongoing at Admiralty Way, Lekki, and Addo Road in Ajah.
