The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has expressed readiness to support the national response to the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, with about 32 people on board.

NCAA, in a statement on Monday,  said it received with deep concern the press release by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development regarding the crash of the NAF NGR931 aircraft.

“The Authority is deeply saddened by this development and extends its thoughts and prayers to the personnel of the Nigeria Air Force, the occupants of the aircraft, their families and all those affected by this distressing incident,” the statement read.

The NCAA said that while military aviation operations fall outside its regulatory oversight and operational mandate, it remains committed to supporting the national response.

“Accordingly, the NCAA stands ready to provide such technical expertise and assistance as may be required to support the ongoing search and rescue operations,” the statement said.

The authority said it was closely monitoring developments and would continue to cooperate with relevant authorities and agencies in line with established national emergency response protocols.

“At this difficult time, the Authority stands in solidarity with the Nigeria Air Force and all those directly affected by this incident. We remain hopeful for a positive outcome and pray for the safety and successful rescue of all involved,” the statement read.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo had earlier said air traffic controllers informed him of the disappearance of the aircraft with tail number NGR 931, en route Lagos from Benin at 0913 hours.

Keyamo said the wreckage was located near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, and that preliminary information suggested 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board.

The Ondo State Police Command also confirmed the crash, with spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi saying details were still emerging.
