A World Health Organisation (WHO) humanitarian warehouse in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro has been destroyed in an attack, the agency’s Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Sunday.
Tedros said the warehouse was struck on Friday, destroying a facility that stored medical supplies meant for frontline health facilities.
He said no casualties had been reported, adding that a WHO staff member and drivers had been at the site earlier in the day but left before the attack.
“Last Friday, the WHO humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine, was struck and destroyed. At this time, no casualties have been reported,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X (formerly Twitter).

According to Tedros, the team managed to evacuate 130 of the approximately 300 pallets stored at the warehouse before the strike.
He said the facility mainly contained emergency medical supplies intended for health facilities serving people near the frontline.
The WHO records attacks on healthcare facilities and personnel globally but does not attribute responsibility for such incidents under its reporting rules.
The agency has recorded 3,148 attacks on healthcare in Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. The majority involved violence with heavy weapons.
Of the recorded attacks, 2,567 affected healthcare facilities, 71 targeted warehouses and 645 involved medical supplies. The attacks have resulted in 240 deaths and 1,055 injuries, according to WHO data.
Tedros called for an end to attacks on healthcare, warning that such incidents deprive civilians of lifesaving medical services.
He stressed that international humanitarian rules require healthcare to be protected even during war.
“I cannot say loudly enough: attacks on health care MUST STOP. Otherwise, people are deprived of lifesaving healthcare,” said Tedros.
“Even wars have rules. One of those is that health must be protected!”
Last month, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) accused Russia of pursuing what it described as a deliberate effort to destroy Ukraine’s healthcare system, citing what it said was a consistent pattern of attacks during the war.
The organisation said Russian forces had carried out repeated attacks on healthcare facilities and medical workers, which it argued appeared aimed at damaging the health system and punishing civilians rather than being incidental consequences of the conflict.
More than four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion, both sides have intensified long-range attacks, resulting in rising civilian casualties.
