A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that it has taken over the party’s secretariat in Molete, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The announcement was made during a visit to the facility by members of the faction aligned with the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee.

The development comes after Governor Seyi Makinde established a new PDP secretariat along the Oke-Ado axis of Ibadan, which has since served as the party’s operational base in the state.

Speaking at the Molete secretariat, Prof. Rahman Akinoso, chairman of the Oyo State faction of the PDP loyal to Wike, said the move followed a recent Supreme Court judgment, which, according to him, affirmed that there is now “one PDP” in the country.

He said security agencies had been notified of the development and announced that all activities of the faction in Oyo State would henceforth be coordinated from the Molete secretariat.

“The action follows the Supreme Court judgment that says there is now one PDP. We have duly notified the security agencies. Our activities in relation to the PDP in Oyo State will now start from here,” Akinoso said.

Also commenting, the Gbolarumi Campaign Council described the development as the beginning of “a new chapter” for the party in Oyo State, claiming it marked the return of what it called the “authentic PDP” to its political base.

The group alleged that the Molete secretariat had been under the control of loyalists of Governor Makinde and accused them of abandoning the PDP following the governor’s alleged political alignment with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

“The authentic PDP is back home. This is not just about recovering a building; it is about reclaiming the soul, structure and vision of our great party. Today marks the beginning of a new era in Oyo politics,” the council said.

It further claimed that the declaration represented “a major turning point” in the party’s internal dispute and signalled the start of “a renewed political movement” under the leadership of Adebayo Gbolarumi.

According to the group, it has activated its political structures across Oyo State’s 33 local government areas and will begin an extensive grassroots mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The council added that the Molete secretariat would immediately resume operations as its coordination centre, where party leaders, members and supporters would meet to plan for future political activities.
