DEVELOPING STORY: Malawi Vice President’s Plane Reported Missing

Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima has gone missing, in a military aircraft carrying him and nine others, Malawi’s presidency said on Monday.

The aircraft was expected to arrive Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 a.m., but went off the radar.

“All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the Aircraft since it went off the radar have failed thus far,” Malawi’s Office of the President and Cabinet said in a statement.

Chilima was aboard a Malawi Defense Force aircraft that left the capital Lilongwe at 09:17 a.m. (07:17 GMT).

It added that a search and rescue operations has commenced.
