Keyamo Orders Suspension of 800% Planned Navigation Charges on Airlines

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has approved the suspension of the proposed 800% increase in navigational charges by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

NAMA’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Musa, announced this in a statement on Monday. He said the suspension was due to the “current economic challenges faced by Nigerians.”
Keyamo emphasised the need for further consultation before any changes are implemented.

NAMA boss, Umar Farouk, attributed the planned hike to the “substantial economic pressures encountered by the aviation industry, compounded by global economic volatility, fuel price escalation, and currency instability.”
He suggested raising NAMA’s fees by 800% starting September 1, 2024.
