Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager to win eight of his opening nine matches, as Mohamed Salah’s stunning goal sealed a 2-0 victory against Bologna in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Slot’s impressive start to life at Anfield continues, following his appointment as Jurgen Klopp’s successor. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Salah ensured Liverpool’s second successive Champions League win this season, marking another milestone for the Dutch manager.
Mac Allister opened the scoring in the first half, finishing off a move he initiated with a perfectly-timed run. Salah, in his typical fashion, added a second in the 75th minute, curling a beautiful strike into the far corner for his 49th Champions League goal.
Arne Slot, who has maintained Liverpool’s strong momentum at the top of the Premier League, praised his players for adapting quickly to his tactics. “It’s hardly impossible to do something special at this club. It says a lot about how we started, how the players bought into it and the effort put in,” Slot said.
“We’ve kept many things the same, the players were very happy with former regimes. It’s nice to start this way, that’s clear,” he said.
Bologna, competing in the Champions League for the first time in 60 years, gave a spirited performance and nearly equalised, with Riccardo Orsolini and Dan Ndoye coming close. However, Liverpool’s experience and quality ultimately prevailed.
Slot’s remarkable start has fans dreaming of another memorable European campaign, just as Klopp delivered when he led Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2019.
