Sudan accused Ethiopia on Sunday of enabling deadly drone strikes from its territory, presenting evidence gathered from downed aircraft, flight data, and military records.

According to a report by Sudan’s army-led Transitional Sovereignty Council, launching sites at Asosa airport, the Kurmuk-Gizen border area, and Bahir Dar air base hosted 70 separate attacks between February 15 and October 27.

The council stated that these drone strikes killed or wounded 484 civilians and caused nearly 400 casualties among Sudanese soldiers.

The Sudanese military asserts that Ethiopia provides direct support to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with whom the army has fought since April 2023.

Ethiopia denies aiding the RSF and counters that Khartoum supports Tigrayan rebels—an assertion Sudan rejects.

Recent military reports indicate a significant escalation in October alone, citing strikes that killed civilians in Wad el-Mahi and Khartoum alongside attacks that crippled six local power stations.

Sudan announced plans to file formal complaints with both the UN Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council while maintaining its right to self-defence under international law.

The accusations highlight the expanding use of long-range drones by both forces in the war, which UN estimates show caused over 1,100 deaths across Sudan in the first half of the year.
