Aston Villa have announced plans to take legal action against former Liverpool defender-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher for what the club described as “unacceptable insults” about the club and its supporters.
Villa Chairman Nassef Sawiris confirmed the decision in a statement published on official social media platforms on Saturday, emphasising that the club will not permit external commentary to derail its momentum in domestic and European competitions.
The dispute stems from Carragher’s recent appearance on the Stick to Football podcast, where he argued that Villa manager Unai Emery should consider replacing Michael Carrick at Manchester United.

Responding to Villa’s historical standing, Carragher asserted that a fundamental hierarchy exists in football and declared that Aston Villa will never reach the stature of Manchester United.
The pundit’s remarks triggered immediate backlash from Villa supporters, coming after four years of major progress under Emery.

Since taking charge, the Spanish manager has secured two Champions League qualifications and led the Birmingham club to its first major trophy in three decades by winning the Europa League last season.
