Watford Mistakes Hand Leeds Vital Win in Championship Clash

Leeds United surged into second place in the Championship, capitalising on two costly errors by Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann to secure a 2-1 victory at Elland Road on Tuesday.

Bachmann’s blunders allowed Leeds to take a commanding 2-0 lead within the first seven minutes. Largie Ramazani opened the scoring, followed shortly by Brenden Aaronson, who also benefited from Bachmann’s misjudgment. Although Kwadwo Baah pulled one back for Watford, Leeds held on to secure consecutive home wins within five days.

Daniel Farke’s side extended their unbeaten league run to six matches, having lost just once in their first 11 games of the season. In contrast, Watford’s defeat marked their fifth consecutive away loss, adding to the disappointment of last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to rivals Luton Town.

In other Championship action, Shane Duffy’s late goal ensured Norwich City extended their unbeaten streak to six matches, as they battled back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Preston North End. Sam Greenwood’s early penalty and a second goal from Duane Holmes put Preston ahead, but Borja Sainz reduced the deficit just before half-time, and Duffy equalised in the second half.

Dane Scarlett scored again for Oxford United, helping them secure a 1-1 draw against Derby County at the Kassam Stadium.

Nahki Wells was instrumental for Bristol City, netting a quick brace in the second half to level the score at 2-2 against Stoke City. Stoke had initially taken a two-goal lead thanks to Lewis Koumas and Andrew Moran, but Wells’ efforts extended Bristol City’s unbeaten run to six matches amid the absence of head coach Liam Manning, who is mourning the loss of his son Theo earlier this month.

Cardiff City climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 home victory over Portsmouth, featuring an own goal from Regan Poole and a close-range effort from Callum Robinson within the first 13 minutes.

Swansea City’s winless streak stretched to five matches following a goalless draw at Sheffield Wednesday, while Coventry City shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
