Kano Police Apprehend Three Suspects with N129Billion Fake Currencies 

Three individuals were taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command on Tuesday for possessing counterfeit money totalling N129 billion.

In addition to confirming the arrest to reporters in Kano on Tuesday, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, provided a breakdown of the funds, stating that they included US dollars, CFA, and Naira, among other currencies that were taken from another foreign exchange broker.

“N129 billion worth of counterfeit currency was recovered,” Kiyawa stated.

According to the PPRO, the counterfeit money was worth $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000.

Kiyawa also revealed that the two people who were detained with the counterfeit money and the person from whom they were taken have been caught and are being held by the police, assisting in the discovery of the real counterfeit money makers.

Three tricycles, eight motorcycles, six live rounds, and three packages containing 175 wrapped dried leaves that were thought to be Indian hemp were also found by the command.

Along with the recovery of 278 sheep and seven cattle, he disclosed that the command had also collected 250 pieces of diazepam tablets.

The PPRO said, “Major cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, thuggery, and drug dealing have been surmounted. These tactics have not only led to the capture of criminals but also discouraged potential offenders from committing crimes.”
