Inter Milan Dominates Cagliari to Go Top of Serie A

Inter Milan climbed to the top of Serie A on Saturday with a commanding 3-0 victory over Cagliari, overtaking Atalanta on goal difference.

Second-half goals from Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez, and Hakan Calhanoglu secured Inter’s fifth consecutive league win, highlighting their strong form in Italy’s top flight.

Inter’s stay at the summit could be short-lived, as Atalanta, who are aiming for a record 12th straight league win, face Lazio later on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Cagliari’s woes continue as they remain just inside the relegation zone, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat under coach Davide Nicola.

Lautaro Martinez ended an eight-match scoring drought with a 71st-minute strike. Despite missing earlier chances, the Argentinian striker expressed satisfaction with his performance and team spirit:
“The most important thing is that Inter win. If I get a goal too, then that’s a bonus. We’ve just got to keep going and make 2025 like this year.”

Martinez’s goal was followed by Calhanoglu’s penalty, sealing the win after Bastoni had opened the scoring with a stunning looping header.

Inter will now turn their attention to the Italian Super Cup, where they face Atalanta in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
