Achraf Hakimi scored twice and Ousmane Dembele continued his blistering form as Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) edged Lyon 3-2 on Sunday to maintain their unbeaten record in Ligue 1 this season.
After a goalless first half, the match sprang to life in the second period, with Hakimi breaking the deadlock in the 53rd minute before Dembele doubled PSG’s lead moments later.
Lyon’s Rayan Cherki pulled one back in the 83rd minute, but Hakimi struck again to restore PSG’s two-goal advantage. Corentin Tolisso netted in stoppage time to set up a nervy finish, but Luis Enrique’s side held on for the win.
With this victory, PSG have now won 18 and drawn five of their 23 Ligue 1 matches, sitting a commanding 13 points clear of second-placed Marseille.
“The team has really grown in terms of character. We showed great emotional and physical control,” said Luis Enrique after the match.
The French champions remain unbeaten in all domestic competitions and have not lost to a French side since May 2023.
Next up, PSG travel to Saint-Brieuc for their French Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, before hosting Lille in Ligue 1 next weekend. Their Champions League showdown with Liverpool follows on March 5.
For Lyon, the defeat was a setback in their bid for a top-four finish. Paulo Fonseca’s side remain sixth, now five points adrift of a Champions League qualification spot.
“It is not easy against PSG because they are so strong,” admitted Fonseca after the match.
Lyon have now lost two of their four matches under their new coach, leaving their season in delicate balance.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Marseille suffered a 3-0 defeat to Auxerre, with the club’s directors launching furious accusations of ‘corruption’ against match officials.
“The refereeing was scandalous,” claimed former Marseille striker Fabrizio Ravanelli, now working in an advisory role.
Despite the controversy, the result leaves Nice just three points behind Marseille in third after their 2-0 win over Montpellier.
