Barcelona advanced to the Champions League semi-finals with a 5-3 aggregate victory, even after succumbing to a 3-1 defeat at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, where Serhou Guirassy scored a hat-trick.

Having secured a 4-0 advantage with a commanding performance in their home match, the visitors endured a tense finish as Dortmund and Guirassy tried to mount an incredible comeback.

Guirassy opened the scoring for Dortmund with a Panenka penalty 11 minutes into the match and doubled their lead early in the second half with a header.

Dortmund felt the momentum shift, but Barcelona responded, with Fermin Lopez compelling Ramy Bensebaini to score an own goal with about 30 minutes to go.

Guirassy rekindled Dortmund’s hopes by netting his third goal in the 76th minute, and the outcome might have changed if Julian Brandt hadn’t been flagged offside before finding the net with 11 minutes left.

Although this marks their first competitive loss in 2025, Barcelona continues their journey to the semi-finals, keeping alive their pursuit of a remarkable treble, a decade after their last achievement of winning the Champions League in Berlin.

Barcelona is considered a favourite for the title and will face Inter Milan or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
