Thousands to Welcome PSG Heroes After Historic 5-0 Victory

Paris Saint-Germain are set to mark their long-awaited UEFA Champions League triumph with a grand victory parade on the Champs-Elysees on Sunday, where tens of thousands of fans are expected to join the festivities.

Following their emphatic 5-0 win over Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday night, players and staff—including 19-year-old star Desire Doue, who scored twice in the final—will take part in the celebration. The team will also be honoured by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.

The victory parade comes after a night of euphoric scenes across the French capital, where crowds filled the streets, lighting flares and fireworks in celebration. However, the joyous mood was marred by widespread unrest. According to the interior ministry, police arrested nearly 600 people across France, more than 200 vehicles were set on fire, and several violent incidents occurred.

Tragically, two people lost their lives during the night: a teenager was fatally stabbed during a gathering in Dax, and a man riding a scooter was struck and killed by a vehicle in Paris. In a separate incident, a police officer was placed in an induced coma after being injured by a firework.

PSG Clinch First Champions League Title with Record 5-0 Win

Security will be tight during the Champs-Elysees parade, which will be closed to traffic. The recent tragedy at a Liverpool FC parade in England, where a car drove into a crowd injuring 79 people, has further heightened concerns about public safety.

President Macron took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise PSG’s historic achievement, calling it “a day of glory” and declaring, “Paris is the capital of Europe tonight.”

The dominant scoreline in the final marked the biggest winning margin in a Champions League or European Cup final. Many of the team’s standout players hail from the Paris suburbs, reflecting PSG’s strategic shift under Qatari ownership away from recruiting global superstars toward developing local talent.

In addition to Doue, another 19-year-old, Senny Mayulu, came off the bench to score PSG’s fifth goal. Speaking after the match, he said the victory still didn’t feel real and described the emotional scenes in the dressing room.

PSG’s rise to European glory comes 14 years after Qatari investors bought the club in 2011. Since then, they’ve poured hundreds of millions of euros into building a competitive side.

Club president Nasser al-Khelaifi said the club is now focused on maintaining success: “The objective now is to win again. It has taken 14 years of hard work but we are building something for the future.”
