Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has called for the cancellation of the ongoing local government elections in the state, alleging plans to manipulate the process.
Speaking on Saturday during a programme on Nigeria Info, Bucknor-Akerele expressed her frustration at being unable to cast her vote, stating that her polling unit was among several reportedly relocated without prior notice to voters.
“I couldn’t vote because my polling unit was moved elsewhere and no one informed us,” she said, adding that such irregularities raise serious concerns about the credibility of the exercise.
She described the development as a deliberate attempt to suppress participation and rig the outcome of the elections, urging authorities to intervene and annul the process.
“I have been to my own unit, my name is not there. There are units supposed to be in front of Eko Hotel, they have brought them here to Ajose Adeogun,” she said.
She alleged that the relocation of polling units and the absence of voters’ names on the register were deliberate tactics designed to rig the local government elections in Lagos State.
She accused the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of playing a role in disrupting the electoral process and called for the immediate cancellation of the polls.
She said, “Many people are not able to vote because they have, in fact, completely disrupted all the polling units. I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there’s a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party. Because otherwise, why is it that people are not able to vote in their unit? Why is it that units have been disrupted and placed in the wrong place?”
