Torrential rains and resulting floods have claimed 15 lives in Guinea since late June, according to a government report.
The director of Guinea’s National Agency for Emergency and Humanitarian Disaster Management (ANGUCH) informed AFP that the severe flooding was exacerbated by both heavy rainfall and issues such as uncontrolled construction and clogged gutters.
The report, sent to AFP on Monday evening, indicates that the capital, Conakry, and its surrounding areas have been the most severely impacted.
Beyond the fatalities, the floods that occurred between June 28 and July 24 also injured 19 people and damaged 138 homes, forcing a total of 52 households to evacuate.
