OpenAI has introduced a new generation of applications that are directly integrated into ChatGPT, enabling users to engage with third-party services through natural dialogue.
This update, which was shared in a blog post on Monday, represents a significant advancement in enhancing ChatGPT’s capabilities and its developer ecosystem.
The company made this announcement in a blog post on Monday, stating that developers can now start creating these applications using the newly available Apps SDK in preview mode.
“Today, we’re introducing a new generation of apps you can chat with, right inside ChatGPT. Developers can start building them today with the new Apps SDK, available in preview,” it stated.
According to OpenAI, these applications can seamlessly fit into conversations and may be suggested by ChatGPT or invoked by name.
OpenAI has confirmed that these applications are now accessible to all logged-in ChatGPT users outside the European Union, including those on the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.
“Our pilot partners—Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow—are also available today in markets where their services are offered, starting in English,” the company said.
It added that additional pilot partners will be introduced later this year and that applications will soon be available to users in the EU.
Developers are encouraged to begin developing and testing their applications immediately using the Apps SDK preview, which OpenAI describes as an open standard built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
The company also noted that as more developers create using the Apps SDK, the range of possibilities will continue to expand. Since these applications integrate smoothly within your chats, you’ll encounter them at moments when they’re likely to be helpful.
