The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to ensure that development across Abuja benefits all residents equitably, regardless of their social or economic status.
Speaking at a media briefing on ongoing projects in the capital, Wike said his administration is committed to promoting inclusive growth that reaches both the city centre and its satellite towns. He stressed that infrastructure expansion, social amenities, and economic opportunities must serve the entire population, not only the elite.
“Our vision is for an inclusive FCT where every citizen — whether in Garki, Nyanya, Bwari, or Gwagwalada feels the impact of government,” he stated. “Development should not be confined to the city centre; it must extend to the outskirts where the majority of our people live.”
Wike explained that several road construction projects, housing schemes, and sanitation initiatives have been launched to improve living conditions across the territory. He also confirmed that the FCT Administration is prioritising health and education by rehabilitating hospitals, building new classrooms, and upgrading public facilities.
According to him, the government is tackling the challenges of urban congestion, environmental degradation, and illegal land use through better planning and enforcement. “We are taking bold steps to restore order and ensure that our capital city reflects the dignity and pride of the nation,” he said.
The minister also reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and inefficiency within the FCT bureaucracy, noting that ongoing reforms aim to make public service more accountable and responsive.
He lauded President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support and for approving funds for major infrastructure projects, including the Abuja metro line and ongoing road network expansion. “The President has shown great commitment to transforming the FCT into a model of modern governance and sustainable development,” Wike said.
Residents’ associations and civil society groups have praised the FCT Administration’s renewed focus on inclusivity but urged the government to ensure transparency and continuity in project execution.
Wike concluded by calling on residents to support the administration’s efforts through civic responsibility and collaboration. “Development is a collective task. Government cannot do it alone, we need the people’s partnership to make Abuja a city that works for everyone,” he said.
