Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on the first phase of a ceasefire deal facilitated by the US, which will enable the release of all hostages in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces to a designated location, and the release of certain Palestinian detainees.

President Donald Trump indicated that the hostages are expected to be freed on Monday. His announcement regarding the agreement did not cover several unresolved issues in the proposal, such as the disarmament of Hamas and the future administration of Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the agreement as a “diplomatic success and a national and moral triumph” for Israel. Hamas expressed gratitude towards Trump and all the mediators involved: Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.

The agreement was met with celebrations and joyful scenes in both Gaza and Israel, although residents on each side voiced concerns that the deal might still collapse.
