United States (US) President Donald Trump has criticised former President Barack Obama after he mocked the White House renovations, comparing the building to a Cheesecake Factory run by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Trump made the remarks on Monday when reporters asked about Obama’s comments over the weekend.
“For you to say it’s a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president,” Trump said during a three-minute response.
“Guys like Obama, they would pass the front door, they would see the broken masonry… He doesn’t notice dirt and filth where the walls haven’t been cleaned for years,” Trump added as he headed to a rally before the next week’s midterm elections.

The Cheesecake Factory is a popular US restaurant chain known for its extensive menu and distinctive interior design. Obama made the remarks while campaigning for Democrats in Ohio and Michigan. He also criticised Trump’s leadership, accusing Republicans of promoting “chaos and cruelty.”
However, Obama’s comments about Trump’s White House renovations drew particular attention. The changes include plans for a large ballroom and gold-leaf decorations throughout the Oval Office.

“He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory,” Obama said.
Saddam Hussein, Iraq’s former dictator, was executed in 2006 following the US-led invasion of Iraq. Trump and Obama have had a long-running political rivalry. Trump launched his political career by promoting the false “birther” conspiracy theory, which claimed Obama was not born in the United States.
Trump’s latest response comes as Republicans face a difficult midterm election campaign. The party risks losing control of Congress, while Trump has also faced questions about his dealings with Russia.
