Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, is set to return to acting with a cameo appearance in a new film currently being shot around Los Angeles, according to media reports on Wednesday.

The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly been filming scenes for Close Personal Friends, which stars Emily in Paris actress Lily Collins, alongside Jack Quaid, Brie Larson, and Henry Golding.

Entertainment outlet Variety described the comedy as focusing on an ordinary couple who encounter a celebrity couple while holidaying in Santa Barbara.

Markle, who rose to fame through her role in the legal drama Suits, left the show after seven seasons to marry Prince Harry, the second son of King Charles III.

She has not appeared in any film or television project for seven years, having announced her retirement from acting following her marriage.

The couple, now based in California after stepping back from royal duties, no longer receive public funding. They instead rely on commercial ventures, including a lucrative Netflix contract and Markle’s lifestyle brand.

Their Netflix projects include the hit but often ridiculed series With Love, Meghan, which portrays Markle as a polished homemaker entertaining guests, harvesting honey, and creating bath products.

Despite mixed reviews and being labelled “pointless” by critics, the show has been renewed for a second season, with a Christmas special expected in December.

Since the release of their tell-all Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, which drew 23 million viewers within its first four days, the couple have faced challenges in sustaining public interest.

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020 after growing tensions within the royal family, particularly between Harry and his brother, Prince William.

Harry’s memoir Spare, released in January 2023, further strained relations by criticising several family members, including the Princess of Wales, Catherine, and Queen Camilla.

The Duke has since expressed a wish for reconciliation and met his father, King Charles, in London in September, following reports that the monarch is receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

Meanwhile, Harry’s uncle, Prince Andrew, was stripped of his royal titles last month after continued controversy over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a former acquaintance of US President Donald Trump.
