Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke, the spokesperson for the International Association of World Peace Advocates, an accredited international election observer group, reported positive impressions regarding the security presence at the Anambra governorship election on Saturday.

Speaking to News Central TV from a polling unit, Ambassador Nkweke emphasised that his reports were limited to the areas his team had physically visited.

“I wouldn’t know what is happening in other places, as a matter of fact, so we are reporting from where we have visited so far. From here, we are going to another polling unit. By the end of the day, we will be able to capture and have an aggregation summary of what we have seen so far,” Nkweke explained.

When asked about the performance of the police, the observer group representative noted a visible, multi-agency approach to security.

“As I have said, in each polling unit we have visited so far, we have seen seven security agencies. Not only the police. We have seen the police, we have also seen road safety, and we have also seen civil defence. You can see the environment is calm,” he stated, adding, “So for now, we are impressed.”

Ambassador Nkweke, whose organisation is listed as number six among the internationally accredited election observer groups, confirmed that the team would continue its movement across the state before issuing a comprehensive report.

He concluded by reiterating the need to verify conditions in other local governments before drawing overall conclusions.
