The first look at the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, ‘Michael’, suggests the film intends to focus primarily on the late King of Pop’s professional success and iconic career, largely setting aside his well-documented legal controversies.
The teaser trailer, which debuted on Thursday, offers the initial glimpse of Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, portraying his famous uncle, who died in 2009.
The footage showcases some of the musician’s most memorable moments, including the Moonwalk and the “Thriller” music video, highlighting his journey from a talent in the Jackson Five to a global visionary artist.
The film’s apparent reluctance to delve into the star’s legal troubles follows reported production challenges.
Earlier this year, the script faced a massive roadblock because an initial draft included the 1993 sexual abuse allegations made by Jordan Chandler.
It was reported that the creative team was unaware of a settlement clause that prohibited the dramatisation of the Chandler family, forcing a significant and costly rework of the script after principal photography was already complete, causing production delays.

While Jackson denied all allegations during his lifetime, and his family continues to do so, it remains unclear how (or if) these events will ultimately be addressed in the final film.
‘Michael’ is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan.
The star-studded cast includes Colman Domingo as family patriarch Joe Jackson and Nia Long as matriarch Katherine Jackson.
The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on April 24, 2026.
