A Moroccan court has sentenced French rapper Maes (real name Walid Georgey) to seven years in prison on charges including the formation of a criminal organisation, attempted abduction, and unlawful confinement of a rival within Morocco.
Maes, who has Moroccan heritage, was arrested in January after fleeing the UAE, reportedly to avoid a French international arrest warrant related to an unrelated criminal case.

According to local reports, the rapper, who has consistently denied the charges, was accused of hiring hitmen to kill the rival, a plot that was ultimately foiled.
Ten other individuals were sentenced in connection with the case, receiving terms ranging from one to ten years.
Maes had previously fled his native France for Dubai in 2020 following a shootout that occurred after he was the victim of extortion attempts.
