Joy swept through Eruku in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday as 38 worshippers abducted by gunmen finally returned home after their release.

Their return followed a coordinated rescue effort involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

According to a statement by Prince Dada Sunday, Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti Local Government Council Chairman, the abductees arrived in Eruku at about 6:30 pm and were received with celebrations by family members and residents.

Earlier, the freed worshippers had been officially handed over to the Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council, Hon. Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, by Governor AbdulRasaq in Ilorin, marking the conclusion of a rescue effort that had drawn national concern.

Prince Sunday said the handover ceremony reflected the relentless commitment of relevant authorities and security agencies involved in securing the release of the victims.

Speaking during the reception, Hon. Awelewa expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor AbdulRasaq, the National Security Adviser, and the security operatives for their swift intervention. He also acknowledged the medical care made available to the victims after regaining freedom, assuring residents of the council’s continued efforts toward improving security across the 10 wards.

Also reacting, the Owa of Eruku lauded all parties involved in securing the release, saying the return of the worshippers has restored joy to the community and reaffirmed confidence in collective security efforts.
